Recognise the signs

When your eyes don’t feel like themselves.

Dry eye happens when you don’t make enough tears, or when your tears evaporate too quickly. Even watery eyes can be a sign of dryness.

These symptoms can have other causes, so an examination is always the first step.

Your dry eye assessment

Good care starts with understanding.

We look beyond the symptoms to your tear film, eyelids and ocular surface, and explain what the findings mean for you.

01

Tell us your story

Your symptoms, medical history, medications and treatments you’ve already tried.

02

Take a closer look

Your optometrist examines your anterior ocular surface and eyelids, using Antares technology for a detailed assessment.

03

Make a plan together

We explain your findings and suitable options, from home care to in-practice treatment, with follow-up where needed.

Featured treatment · Eye-light®

Two light technologies. One system.

For suitable patients, Eye-light® can form part of a treatment plan for dry eye linked to meibomian gland dysfunction, a problem with the eyelid glands that make the oily layer of your tears.

Intense pulsed light · IPL

Light-based treatment your clinician may recommend when appropriate.

Low-level light therapy · LLLT

Delivered through a gentle light therapy mask, as part of the protocol chosen for your eyes.

Results vary. Dry eye often needs ongoing management, and the number and type of treatments depend on your individual needs.

More ways to care for your eyes

Targeted care for eyelids and oil glands.

Alongside Eye-light®, your assessment helps us decide which of these may help.

Professional eyelid cleaning

BlephEx treatment

An in-practice treatment using a small rotating sponge to remove debris and flakes from the eyelid margins and lashes. It may be recommended as part of your eyelid care plan for blepharitis.

Care for blocked oil glands

Meibomian gland expression

Your clinician applies controlled pressure to the eyelids to help release thickened oils from the meibomian glands, the glands that produce the oily layer of your tears.

We explain suitability, what to expect and the fees before any treatment. Your plan may include ongoing eyelid hygiene and follow-up.

Your questions, answered

A little clarity before your visit.

Have another question? Call our team on 01527 579777.

Do I need to be an existing patient?

No. You can contact our team to enquire about a dry eye assessment, whether or not you already visit Eyedeal Eyecare.

Will I definitely need Eye-light® treatment?

No. Your assessment comes first. We discuss treatments suited to your findings, which may include home care or other options. Light therapy is only considered when appropriate.

How much does an assessment or treatment cost?

Please call us for current assessment fees and treatment prices. We will always explain the costs before you decide to go ahead.

Can dry eye be cured?

Dry eye is often a long-term condition. The aim is to improve comfort and manage the underlying causes where possible. Treatment response and follow-up needs vary from person to person.

What should I bring to my appointment?

Your glasses, details of your medications, and any eye drops or eyelid products you use. Let us know if you wear contact lenses so we can advise you before your visit.

Is a dry eye assessment an emergency appointment?

No, a routine dry eye assessment is for ongoing symptoms. If your eye is painful and red, or you have a red eye while wearing contact lenses, seek urgent advice from NHS 111. For sudden loss of vision or a serious eye injury, seek emergency help.
